Descripción With your help, we have introduced numerous children in primary schools to coding via Scratch and have set up an award winning Coding and Electronics Youth Club which is now on-line.
In our Club, we can attract girls into our graphic design section much more easily than into coding. We then get them coding to animate their designs.
We want to run a series of on-line fun sessions called "The Cartoon Club" which will be aimed at recruiting more girls :
- using the graphic facilities of Scratch to encourage participation and fun
- using the need to tell stories to explain algorithms
- moving the children through the Scratch coding capabilities
by getting them to make :
- a cartoon to the music "Happy"
all using their own graphics
We do not discriminate, so although this event will be aimed at recruiting more girls (33% currently). it will be open to all. (We have several girl members who joined because their brothers did.)
We will then move children into the main club to develop them further.
NB : Locally, children are on holiday from 10-25 Oct. and this is popular for two weeks away, hence why our plans avoid this.
