Micro:Bit Characters

Descripción The Micro:bit is a great way to teach the basics of programming and computer science. The Microsoft MakeCode block-based coding environment is a powerful and intuitive way to make the Micro:bit react to all sorts of input, and you can introduce fundamental concepts such as iteration, conditional statements, and variables using MakeCode. The Microbit is now part of the new Junior Cycle programme in post primary education so providing young people with the opportunity to become familiar with it increases their chances for understanding.
In these workshops pupils will initially be introduced to the concept of computational thinking using ‘unplugged activities’. This will help them understand key concepts such as algorithms, decomposition and abstraction. Students will then learn about the Microbit hardware and using the input controls. They will discover how to code the Microbit using Make Code block programming and create an animated MB character!
The intended target group are children between the ages of 9-13 living in a rural community. Computers and Micro:bits will be supplied onsite
