Parents & Kids Coding Event

THE FREE GRAMMAR SCHOOL OF KING CHARLES II AT BRADFORD

Description The event is designed for primary school children and their parents/carers to learn coding together in a fun, supportive and engaging environment. Participants will explore the fundamentals of computer programming through hands-on activities using BBC micro:bits and Python programming.

During the event, families will work side-by-side to create simple programs, control micro:bit devices, and solve coding challenges. The workshops will be led by experienced computing teachers and student ambassadors from Bradford Grammar School, ensuring that all activities are accessible to complete beginners with no prior coding experience required.
What Content Does the Event Teach?
Participants will learn:

Basic computational thinking and problem-solving skills
How to program a BBC micro:bit
Using inputs, outputs, sensors and LEDs on the micro:bit
Introduction to Python programming
Writing simple Python programs using variables, inputs and loops
Creative coding through games and interactive projects

The event will hopefully help parents to support their children with coding at home and also develop an interest in learning how to code.
