Down Ampney Primary School Digital Learning Lab

Down Ampney Parent Teacher Association (1036397)

Description Our project goal is to bridge the digital divide and give every child aged 8-11 years old at our school access to technology, allowing them the opportunity to learn equally without disadvantage.

We hope to deliver this through a special afterschool club, a ‘digital learning lab’ which would promote inclusion and innovation. Delivered by teachers and teaching assistants it would allow pupils the opportunity to engage with a multitude of educational learning platforms using the laptop purchased from this grant, accessing the material via the school’s internet. This would inspire growth and understanding across a vast array of curriculum areas in a fun and relaxed environment.

A lunchtime club also run by staff at our primary school is the second element to our project. Utilising the laptop in this session would mean that we can support children who do not have access to online homework resources at home like some of their peers.

Delivery in this way would also support digital literacy learning, introducing how to navigate around an Laptop and online educational textbooks and platforms with confidence, whilst also teaching pupils on how to be safe in our increasingly digital world.

We want to give every child the opportunity for full participation so they can all experience the personalised learning journeys that are possible from digital methods of education.

Mathematical platforms such as Times Table Rock Stars can adapt to each child’s learning needs, promoting independence on the tasks they complete alone, whilst also giving the chance to collaborate with friends on other challenges. Purchasing the iPads will allow us to support every pupil with their educational development and ensure they all feel included and have the same opportunity as one another.

By giving all our pupils an introduction to technology and enabling them to use it in Primary School, we are helping to prepare students for technology based Secondary School learning and place them in good stead for the dynamic workplaces of the future.

As a PTA we have already supported with technology-based purchases, including a crumble class kit which is a cross-curricular STEM piece of equipment that allows pupils to build, test and evaluate computer-controlled models.

Our goal is through combined collaboration with the school we can empower our young people to thrive academically and give all students the opportunity to succeed.
