Digital Leaders Club.
The Digital Leaders Club will be a lunchtime enrichment event open to 24 Year 5 & 6 pupils. The core focus of this group is to engage and inspire girls in STEM. The Digital Leaders Club will ensure at least 50% participation from girls, addressing the gender gap in computing and technology fields.
In terms 1& 2, the club will offer the children an opportunity to develop their coding skills through my instruction, enquiry based learning and project based learning using Crumble Kits. I will mentor these children and introduce the children the to Crumble Kits in meeting 1 . The next session will offer them the opportunity to explore and experiment with the Crumble Kits independently.
In sessions 3,4 and 5 when the children are more familiar with using the Crumbles, I will teach sessions using some of the projects on the Redfern Electronics website. This will develop the children's understanding of sequence, selection and repetition in programs. It will also allow them to work with various forms of input and output and give them a taste of how coding can be used to control physical systems and be used to solve real life problems.
The last two club meetings will be run as a challenge, where children will work in teams of 2 or 3 to design, code and build anything that has a real world application. This will not only develop their communication and collaboration skills, but will allow them to apply and extend their learning of physical computing. One team will be announced as the winner.
