Code4Drones Enrichment Day

Colton Hills Community School

Description Students will first be taught the science and basic principles of flight that enable a drone to take off from the ground and fly. Fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including computational thinking, mathematical logic, and algorithms, will then be explained and demonstrated. By understanding these fundamentals, students will then learn a number of functions which they will use to complete several tasks in groups of 3. The goal of each task will be to take off and land their drone from the same spot after programming it to perform multiple manoeuvres.

The aim of the event is to encourage Year 9 females to consider taking up Computer Science as an option for their GCSEs. We are a school that has over 60% of students on free school meals and many other families are financially just above the poverty threshold.
