Physical computing with Lego

Woodstone Community Primary School

Description The sessions will look to introduce coding and progress to pupils using their code to control Lego built constructions they have built and then coded.
The idea is to engage students with coding on a computer but then transfer their understanding of code to a physical format.
Once pupils had mastered both the coding and construction of the Lego projects there would be an opportunity for pupils to extend their learning and create their own Lego design and code.
The target group for these activity would be 10 – 11 year old and both boys and girls.
This age group have had a little experience of code but only on a computer and it is important for them to understand how code can be used in the real world and in a physical format. As this age group will move to secondary education in the next year it is an ideal opportunity to introduce them to physical computing in a fun way and with a resource they are a little familiar with.
