Box Monster - using microbits

New College Swindon

Description The lesson will allow learners to understand the basics of the microbit and electronics. Students will be able to explore adding external battery packs onto microbits along with crocodile clips to different sensors which will allow a shoe box to move. This is usually done with a servo motor. Learners can then extend the design of their boxes by including LED lights, copper tape as sensors. This project has been a success and I have delivered it internationally to students and teachers. The purpose of the event is to ensure learners can access physical computing and understand the overlap with electronics and computing.

Ideally, learners need to be aged 10-12 as there are crafts which can be a bit tricky to navigate for kids any younger. Additionally, the electronics can be a bit difficult for younger pupils.

If we are successful with the funding then we will offer a booking page on the website where schools can book onto for the event.
