Year 5 class visit to the New Scientist Live event on 20th October 2025

Friends of St John's Highbury Vale Primary School

Description Dear Meet and Code team,
My name is Hoang-Anh, and I am a volunteer on the PTA (Parent-Teacher Association) at St John’s Highbury Vale Primary School in London, UK. I am applying on behalf of the school for a grant to enable our Year 5 class to attend the New Scientist Live festival on 20th October 2025. This festival offers a unique opportunity for our Year 5 pupils with inspiring exposure to the latest innovations and breakthroughs in science and technology, fostering curiosity and early interest in STEM.

Please let me know if you require any further information.
Many thanks for your consideration,
Hoang-Anh Le (on behalf of Friend’s of St John’s – registered charity number: 274172)

The content of the New Scientist festival is as follows:
The festival covers cutting-edge topics in science and technology, including recent breakthroughs, innovative applications, and interactive workshops. The children will learn and hopefully be inspired by leading scientists, researchers and interactive demonstrations.

Methods and Resources:
The content will be delivered through keynote talks, panel discussions, hands-on workshops, interactive exhibits, and live demonstrations. Resources include multimedia presentations, curated educational materials, and opportunities for direct engagement with experts.

The goals for the event include:
- Inspiring curiosity and enthusiasm for STEM subjects
- Increase children’s understanding of current research and innovations through interactive workshops and presentations
- Provide accessible opportunities for lifelong learning
- Foster connections between researchers, educators, and the broader community

Target Group:
The festival is designed for a broad audience and on the 20th October, it will be specifically designed to appeal to a school audience.

What makes your event special for the target group?
The festival combines interactive experiences with direct access to renowned scientists and academic leaders, providing an inclusive and engaging environment to children of all backgrounds. There are a number of children within this year group who are from under-served socio-economic groups or with SEND (special educational needs). By removing barriers to participation, the event ensures that children who might not otherwise have this opportunity can experience hands-on learning, fostering curiosity and early interest in STEM.
