Description
This code club will provide free after school coding enrichment for underserved children in our school community.
It will be one of the only free to attend clubs we run as a school, to ensure that all children are able to access it regardless of parents' financial circumstances.
Many children in our school community adore video games, with many voicing aspirations to be video game content creators or game designers when they're older. This club will aim to nurture these aspirations and scaffold their knowledge of computer science through the lens of game design.
We will be using resources from the Raspberry Pi Code Club website to teach creative coding. With purchases made from the grant if selected, we will also be able to supply laptops for the children to create games using the Kodu software, and design games through the Makecode arcade website and download them to micro:bit compatible devices.
The club would culminate in a showcase of the children's finished video games, linking back to our school's vision of providing children moments to flourish by creating a tangible final product.
This club will run 3 times in the year, once each term, with a different intake each term, to ensure we can provide this opportunity to as many children in our school as possible.
