Event Title: Build, Code, Create – LEGO Robotics for All
Location: Christ Church C of E Primary School, Surbiton
Delivery Partner: Beyond Blocks (https://beyondblocks.co.uk)
Target Age Group: KS2 pupils (ages 7–11)
Planned Date: Monday 20 October
Registration: Free for participants; coordinated via school office and class teachers
🎓 What content does the event teach?
This hands-on workshop introduces children to the fundamentals of coding, robotics, and engineering through the creative use of LEGO. Participants will:
- Build programmable LEGO models using motors, sensors, and microcontrollers
- Learn basic programming logic using visual coding platforms
- Explore real-world applications of robotics and design thinking
- Collaborate in teams to solve challenges and iterate on their designs
All equipment—including LEGO kits, laptops/tablets, and software—is provided by Beyond Blocks. Sessions are led by experienced facilitators with backgrounds in education and STEM outreach.
🎯 What are the goals of the event?
- Demystify coding and robotics by making it tangible, playful, and inclusive
- Empower children with problem-solving, teamwork, and creative confidence
- Spark long-term interest in STEM subjects, especially among those with limited prior exposure
- Support teachers with ideas for integrating coding and robotics into the curriculum
👥 Which target group are you addressing?
The event is designed for KS2 pupils, with a particular focus on:
- Children who may not have access to coding clubs or STEM enrichment outside school
- Girls and other underrepresented groups in technology fields
- Pupils with additional needs, supported through differentiated tasks and inclusive facilitation
Christ Church C of E Primary serves a diverse community, and this workshop aims to ensure every child feels welcome and capable in a STEM setting.
