Year 4 Holly: Junior Tech Pioneers: Ohbot, AI, and Digital Guardians (Session A)

FRIENDS OF STOKENCHURCH MIDDLE SCHOOL

Description This full-day intensive workshop delivers 240 minutes of targeted digital instruction tailored specifically to the developmental and learning needs of our Year 4 pupils.

The day is structured into three progressive, highly interactive modules:

1. Hi, I'm Ohbot!" (90 mins): Pupils will learn the foundations of physical computing by programming a robotic head using Scratch. They will focus on core computational logic like sequencing, simple loops, and watching their code cause real-world physical movement.

2. AI Unlocked: Teach the Machine" (90 mins): Pupils will demystify artificial intelligence and machine learning in an age-appropriate way, learning how computers recognise patterns, images, and data inputs.

3. Gaming Guardians / Digital Detectives" (60 mins): A vital module centered on digital citizenship, gamified cybersecurity, and proactive online safety tailored for lower Key Stage 2.

Our main goal is to build early confidence in STEM by bridging abstract block-based software coding with tangible physical hardware and real-world AI applications.

Which target group are you addressing and what makes it special?
This event specifically targets our Year 4 primary cohort. At this pivotal age, children are interacting more with digital devices but rarely see how the technology works behind the screen. By partnering with external education technology experts (eduthing), we are able to provide children with high-end physical computing infrastructure (Ohbot units) and a specialized AI curriculum that is completely outside our day-to-day school budgetary reach. It turns standard computer lessons into an unforgettable, experiential learning day that sets a strong foundation for their upper Key Stage 2 computing journey.

Underserved and Underrepresented Groups:
Our school serves a diverse catchment area with 15% of students qualifying for Pupil Premium (low-income background) and 25% from ethnic minority backgrounds. This grant ensures all pupils, regardless of economic status, get equal, fully-funded access to cutting-edge technology.
