Description
Following a highly successful inaugural year, we are seeking funding to elevate our After-School Robotics Club into its second year by entering the prestigious VEX Robotics League. This expansion will allow our team of female and female-identifying students (ages 14-18) to compete on a grander stage while introducing advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) programming.
This program focuses intensely on technology and coding, runs weekly throughout the competitive season, serves a minimum of 20 young people, and is offered free of charge to ensure zero financial barriers to elite STEM competitions.
A component of the VEX League is the autonomous period, where the robot must operate without human driver control. Students will utilize AI algorithms and sensor data (using vision and distance sensors) to program their robots to make intelligent, real-time decisions on the field.
Advanced Mechanical Engineering: Participants will design, prototype, and build complex mechanical systems to meet the specific challenges of this year's official VEX game.
Our primary goal is to use the thrill of a league competition to deepen the girls' technical expertise. By mastering AI-driven autonomous programming, these students are breaking barriers in a field where less than 25% of robotics competition participants are female, setting them up as future leaders in AI and engineering.
What makes this year special is the transition from an in-house club to an externally validated, competitive esports and robotics team.
