Lab Life: Robot Zoo

Institute of Imagination

Description To celebrate EU Code Week 2018, the Institute of Imagination will be running an exciting beginner friendly ‘hackathon’ focussed on coding and programming, while fusing technology, science and arts.

Lab Life: Robot Zoo will be a workshop for people to play, explore and tinker in our Imagination Lab in Lambeth, London. Working in groups, children and families will create their zoo and take part in a fun showcase event at the end of the session. The goal of these animatronic animals is to delight others with unexpected animation, combining creativity, technology and humour! Participants will learn about and interact with robotics, using Birdbrain Technologies’ Hummingbird Kits. During the workshop children and their families will have the opportunity to design and build a Robot Zoo, creating moving robot animals that respond when interacted with.

Using craft materials, sensors, lights and servos, children will learn about coding, programming, engineering, electronics and physical prototyping whilst imagining a whacky world of robotic animals.
