Scouts Digital Citizen and Digital Maker

1st North Fambridge Sea Scouts

Description Scouts digital citizen and digital maker, IOT coding program.

After an opening age appropriate introductory session for each section we will offer a 2 week loan pack of a tablet, micro-bit and arduino linked hardware with a challenge to complete. We expect some individuals to use the time to expand their use of the software and hardware to develop solutions beyond the challenge issued.

We have sourced 30 tablets for Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers (6 to 18 yr olds) to use. As 50% of our Scouts are girls, we are focused on making the project appeal to them specifically. By enabling home use of the equipment we have removed the negative peer pressure sometimes applied by our male Scouts with tech.

The young people will be supported by volunteer IT professionals with on-line help available. They will be able to explore python, arduino and scratch and for more advanced users any languages supported by visual studio. Hardware will be a Windows 10 tablet linked to a micro-bit with a selection of lights, motors, relays and sensors.
