Pakeman Kindness Coders Class B

Pakeman Primary School PTA

Beschreibung Our Meet and Code event introduces 8- and 9-year-old children to the world of coding through a creative and meaningful project: the Kindness Counter. Using Scratch, a visual and beginner-friendly programming tool, children will build their own interactive app that tracks and celebrates kind actions—like helping others, sharing, or tidying up. Each time a kindness button is clicked, the app responds with sounds, animations, and a growing kindness score.

Through this fun project, children will learn key coding concepts such as variables, event handling, sequencing, and logic. They will plan their app with visual worksheets, code step-by-step with guidance, and finish with a working project they can be proud of. The workshop also promotes empathy, creativity, and digital confidence.

This event is supported by Pakeman Primary School Parent Teacher Association (registered Charity No. 1114448), which works to support the children and families of Pakeman Primary through community events and fundraising for special projects like this one.

Pakeman Primary School, located just off Holloway Road in the London Borough of Islington, serves 320 pupils and sits in one of the 10% most deprived areas in London (Index of Multiple Deprivation – Trust for London). 55% of pupils are eligible for Free School Meals—twice the national average. 63% speak English as an additional language, and 82% come from BAME backgrounds—groups that are significantly underrepresented in STEM fields.

We are determined to address this imbalance by providing enriching digital learning experiences. However, without funding, events like this are not possible. The school budget is extremely limited, and traditional PTA fundraising options are not viable, as many of our families live at or below the poverty line. Your support would help us offer our children the inspiration and opportunity they deserve with a full day of coding workshops to really allow them to become immersed in the joy of coding!
