RoboCoders Team 3

Pakeman Primary School PTA

Beschreibung Our Meet and Code event will deliver an engaging robotic coding workshop for Year 6 classes at a primary school serving a highly deprived area of Holloway. The workshops are designed to introduce children to coding, computational thinking, creativity and teamwork through hands-on learning.

The event will teach the fundamentals of coding and robotics in a practical and accessible way. Pupils will learn key concepts including sequencing, algorithms, inputs and outputs, debugging, and problem-solving. Using age-appropriate visual coding platforms and programmable robotic resources, children will work in small groups to design, code and build an interactive game that they can physically control and play. Activities will include creating simple commands, testing ideas, improving designs, and adapting code to make their games function effectively.

The workshop will use practical learning methods rather than traditional classroom teaching. Participants will learn through exploration, teamwork, guided demonstrations and hands-on experimentation. Resources will include robotics kits, laptops or tablets, coding software and construction materials which allow pupils to build and personalise their creations.

The goals of the event are to:

• Introduce children to coding and robotics in an enjoyable and accessible way
• Build confidence and digital skills among young learners
• Develop creativity, problem-solving and teamwork skills
• Inspire curiosity about technology and future STEM opportunities
• Increase participation in coding among children who may have limited access to technology experiences outside school

Many of the children attending come from an underserved community where opportunities to access extracurricular STEM activities and digital resources can be limited. More than one in every two children in our school relies on pupil premium support to access the same opportunities as their peers and 83% come from a BAME background.

What makes this event special is that children will not simply learn to code on a screen; they will create something tangible that they can build, test and play with themselves. This hands-on approach helps pupils see coding as creative, fun and relevant to everyday life.

All workshops will take place during the school day at no cost, ensuring full participation from all pupils in the selected classes. No previous coding experience is required.
