Beschreibung
This engaging and interactive programme brings artificial intelligence to life within the classroom. Students will develop their understanding through practical activities, including training their own image-recognition models and applying these models to control LEGO-based robots that respond to visual inputs.
In addition to the technical learning, students will explore key issues surrounding AI ethics through accessible, age-appropriate discussions, encouraging critical thinking about the societal impact of emerging technologies.
These sessions are specifically designed to complement the KS4 Computer Science curriculum, deepening students’ understanding of one of the most significant and rapidly evolving fields in modern technology.
Rationale and Impact
This opportunity is particularly valuable for our school community, where approximately 39% of students are eligible for pupil premium funding and 23% have special educational needs (SEND). Furthermore, the school has a highly diverse intake, with around 56% of students speaking English as an additional language (EAL) and a higher-than-average proportion of disadvantaged learners.
For many of our students, access to high-quality, specialist STEM enrichment—particularly experiences involving cutting-edge technologies such as AI—is limited. This programme would provide a rare and impactful opportunity to engage with advanced concepts in a practical, accessible, and inspiring way.
By supporting this initiative, students will benefit not only from enhanced subject knowledge but also from increased confidence, aspiration, and awareness of future pathways within the technology sector.
