Year 4 cross-school computing workshop

Grove C of E Primary School PTA

Beschreibung We hope to run an event where three local schools can come together to take part in a day of coding workshops. The workshops will be run by Peter Marshman of Digitall. The workshops will be hands-on, meaningful learning experiences that will equip our learners with essential digital skills; from coding and robotics to online safety and creative problem-solving.

As well as the children learning computing skills through the workshops, we also hope to provide an opportunity for three schools to come together and for the children to share their knowledge and enthusiasm about coding with each other. We are all part of the same school trust (ODST) but we have not been able to meet up before due to transport costs. This would provide a really memorable day with the venue provided by South Moreton School.

The workshops will also help teachers improve their own coding skills to take back to all three schools. Teachers will be more enthusiastic about coding and feel more confident to use their physical resources such as Micro-bits with their own classes and clubs in the future.

We would like every single child from our three Year 4 classes to be able to meet up and enjoy the coding workshops together. These classes are 50% female and include a high proportion of SEN students, children from deprived backgrounds and children from refugee backgrounds, who often cannot access coding activities outside of school.

If the activity is successful we would like to make this a regular event between local schools to share expertise and enthusiasm for coding and computing.
