Code Your Story is a free, four-session coding club for primary school children, introducing them to computational thinking, block-based programming and simple robotics through creative storytelling.
Over four 60-minute sessions, the same group of 20-30 pupils will progress from unplugged coding activities (sequencing, algorithms and logical thinking through games and puzzles) to hands-on programming in Scratch, where they design characters, write simple scripts, and build their own interactive story or game. Where equipment allows, pupils will also get an introduction to physical computing using Bee-Bots or micro:bit devices, bringing their code into the real world.
The sessions are structured as follows:
How Computers Think – unplugged activities introducing sequencing and algorithms
Meet Scratch – basic block coding: movement, loops, characters
Build Your Story – pupils design their own interactive story or simple game
Showcase Day – pupils present their finished projects to parents, carers and peers
Our goals are to build children's confidence and curiosity around technology, demystify coding as a creative and accessible skill, and give pupils a genuine sense of ownership and achievement in a finished digital project.
We are targeting children aged 8–11 at our school, with a particular focus on pupils who have limited or no access to technology at home, pupils with English as an additional language, and pupils from lower-income households. All equipment is provided during sessions, removing the barrier of at-home device access. Pupils are encouraged to draw on their own backgrounds and interests when designing their stories, making the content personally meaningful and inclusive.
No prior coding experience is needed. All participants will receive a certificate of completion, and their work will be shared with families at our Showcase Day event.
