What content does the event teach?
The club will introduce pupils from our feeder primary schools to coding and digital creativity. Using Pico RGB Keypads, they will learn the basics of programming, experiment with colourful light displays, and design simple games. They’ll also develop problem-solving, teamwork, and confidence before moving into secondary school.
Which methods and resources are used to convey this content to the participants?
The sessions will be very hands-on. Pupils will follow short demonstrations and then try out activities themselves using Raspberry Pi Pico boards with the RGB Keypad Base. They will be guided step by step but also encouraged to experiment and create their own ideas. Resources will include laptops, coding software, and project guides written at an age-appropriate level.
What are the goals of the event?
To give primary school pupils an exciting introduction to coding and technology.
To build confidence and curiosity in STEM before they start secondary school.
To support the transition from primary to secondary by offering a positive, creative experience.
To strengthen links with local feeder schools.
Which target group are you addressing with your event?
The project is aimed at pupils in Years 5 and 6 from our feeder primary schools, particularly those who are considering joining our school.
What makes your event special for the target group?
It gives pupils the chance to experience “secondary-style” learning in a fun, creative way. They can see their code come alive instantly through lights and games, which makes coding exciting and approachable. It also helps them feel more confident about moving up to secondary school by meeting staff and trying something new in our setting.
Is there any other relevant information for the target group, e.g. about registration?
Sessions will be run after school or as special events with feeder primaries. Places will be limited so that each pupil has access to their own kit. There is no need for any prior coding experience – just enthusiasm and a willingness to try something new.
This project will give pupils from our feeder primary schools an inspiring first experience of coding and technology. With your support, we can provide the equipment and resources needed to run engaging, hands-on sessions that help young learners build confidence, creativity, and excitement for STEM. We also hope it will make their transition to secondary school feel smoother and more welcoming, whil
