STEMSquare@Home brings the experience and success of STEMSquare@Citywise online. This daylong event will deliver a series of workshops aimed at building the confidence and enthusiasm of young people aged 8-14 in regard to STEM competencies. Activities, conducted online and in real-time, will expose young people to the scratch, Minecraft, microbit and 3D design. Using these skills, participants will code-for-good to highlight the strengths of our community, giving young people the skills, enthusiasm and support to become advocates and highlight some of the positive aspects, as they see it, of growing up in an area often combating negative media narratives. In its own right, it will also create a community of our own by bringing together experienced volunteers and young people from across 15 different local schools.
This workshop, to mark EU Code Week, will target young people rarely engaging in STEM activities through partnerships with local schools and will allow young people to try it out at home, with the opportunity to pursue more learning and activities through STEMSquare@Citywise, where the event has encouraged young people to get involved more.
