Kids always ask questions like: How? Why? and that is great. But even adults don't always know how to explain things, like: how escalators or ATM machines work.
With our event we want to introduce kids to technology, focusing on IoT and coding. This way to explain how different circuits and mechanisms are working. Kids will experiment how to make everyday objects smart, using IoT and coding.
Teaching content covered: STEM, technology, circuits, coding, IoT.
Methods used to convey the content: event uses the 4Cs Process (by LEGO Education), the event contains 4 phases (Connect, Construct, Contemplate, Continue): triggering motivation and tingling curiosity (using Intelino train); constructing real objects from provided materials; contemplating what was achieved - reflection; continue - making those real objects smart using IoT and coding.
Resources used: standard LEGO bricks and various stationery and art supplies; BOSON Inventor Kit, Intelino train (or similar), Scratch, tablets.
Learning goals: design and make real objects from provided materials, develop teamwork skills, learn to build circuits; learn basics of IoT and coding (Scratch).
Target group: children, age 8-11 years old
